Dreamology Review

Hello, everybody! I am back with another review, yes, I know that it’s only been a few days since my last review, but why not post another one?

So you may have guessed by the title that I will be reviewing Dreamology, and WOW! This book was good! Better than good. Fantastic. 

Synopsis:
For as long as Alice can remember, she has dreamed of Max. Together they have travelled the world and fallen deliriously, hopelessly in love. Max is the boy of her dreams—and only her dreams. Because he doesn’t exist.

But when Alice walks into class on her first day at a new school, there he is. It turns out, though, that Real Max is nothing like Dream Max, and getting to know each other in reality isn’t as perfect as Alice always hoped.

When their dreams start to bleed dangerously into their waking hours, the pair realises that they might have to put an end to a lifetime of dreaming about each other. But when you fall in love in your dreams, can reality ever be enough?

I’ve wanted to read this book for absolutely ages. and I am so happy that I finally have. It totally exceeded my expectations, which were high, and has literally made me love dreams. I honestly don’t think that this book could have been better.

Alice: She was so fun! and we were constantly given her emotions and full description of her surroundings, which I LOVED! Alice was just so bubbily and wonderful, and of course, she had her sad moments, everyone does. She didn’t hold many things back either, she confronted everything, even if she was scared to do it, which I adored!

Max: Real-life Max was so different than Dream-Max. Max worried but wasn’t shy, but had issues that he was slow to share with Alice. He was still fun, but didn’t always understand Alice, and got annoyed pretty easily. But I think that anyone in his situation would, really.

Oliver: OH, MY! I loved him. Oliver was the definition of ‘fun’! He really was. He was so open, and a great friend to Alice, better than I think she realised though sometimes, but made her really happy and always supported her. He was absolutely hilarious, too. His lines made me laugh aloud so many times.

Sophie: She was the best friend anyone could ask for. Sophie was always there to comfort Alice, though them being separate. Sophie was dramatic, and I loved that. She and Alice were so alike, though Sophie was just more confident, I think. Sophie was so fun to read, like Oliver, making me laugh aloud many times throughout the book.

Alice’s Dad: I wish my dad was like Alice’s. he was witty and clever, and lighthearted, never really taking things TOO seriously. He made me giggle, but also feel sort of sad at the same time. He was a big presence in the book but wasn’t mentioned on every page. He was a presence that you noticed, without it having to be mentioned, if you get what I mean.

The Plot and Pace:

This book went relatively fast, throwing us into the story full on: BOOM! I was able to get through this book so fast, getting about a third of the way through it on the first day. It was a speedy read, but we didn’t loose the details as the book progressed. sometimes, with books this fast, we lose detail, but this certainly wasn’t an issue here.

In terms of the plot, it was well thought through, we even had a bit of science in there, making it a little different. I think that the plot moved along really well, at a constant pace. So many of the books that I’ve read have just trickled out, and I’ve wanted to give up on them, though this book was the opposite. It was getting better and better as I read along, keeping me hooked for hours on end.

Things that I like about it:

• the pace,
• the language used, not too difficult, apart from the science-y words, which were ALWAYS explained,
• the great connection of the characters,
• the dreams! I loved how we got to read the dreams, they were key to the story but could have been excluded. I am so glad that they weren’t. They were so crazy and imaginative and made me feel sort of dull for not having such wild dreams like Alice and Max.
• I don’t think that I could name a favourite scene, this book was just too good.

Things that I wasn’t so keen on:

• The rivalry between Max and Oliver. I was so so happy when they became sort-of-friends again.
• That Oliver had a crush on Alice. That was the cliche part of the book. But it did make certain scenes pretty interesting.(I loved that Sophie and Oliver were kind-of-dating at the end, I ship it entirely).

Side note:: I can’t believe that Celeste was so forgiving once everything was explained to her. She didn’t even go full-on bitch mode for ages, either. She got over it and moved on. In so many teen books everyone gets so hung up on it. But the amazing Celeste was actually understanding and NOT the typical teen.
