Heir of Fire Review.

Okay, so I think that this is my favourite book so far. The character development was absolutely phenomenal and we met a load of new characters that I absolutely love. I loved everything about this book, and it was so gripping that I just could not put it down.

Characters:

Celaena was just amazing, yet again. I mean through this book she went through so much, and was so broken, put back together, broken again, and then once again, put back together again. She’s just ammmmmaaazzzzzinnnggggg and I love her character. I like how in this book she sort of “finds herself” again and although there was LOADS of things going on with where she was in the world. we still get a sense of Celaena herself and how she is coping.

Rowan is a new character that we meet and who (after a whined when he stops being a jerk) helps Celaena. At first I was like “Who the f*** does he think he is?” but then he realises that being a jerk isn’t helping her at all. I think Rowan is really not that great when it comes to meeting new people as he just gives off this hostile “I will kill you” vibe. Ya’know?

Ngl, I want there to be a romance with him and Celaena (shhh I know what happens *winky face*) because at the end of this book… OML *stops herself from screeching from the feels*. He was just, omg, I don’t have the wordsssssssss.

Chaol just stepped. up. a. level. Gonna be honest, in the first book I got this vibe from him that was sort of  like “ohh I’m captain of the Guard, I’m too good for all you peasants, I’m helping no one but myself” (in the beginning) and in HoF it was like that had completely changed around and he was sacrificing so much.

Aedion is another new character that we meet and from the moment that he swaggered in I was like “yup, he’s in the next ones” because I just knew. JUST knew. JUST KNEW that he wasn’t as bad as everyone made him out to be. I love his character though, I mean it’s just so loyal and AMAZINGGGGG.

Dorian was badasssssssssss. dang. I was so happy for him though (peeps who’ve read this’ll know why) and then… Poor Dorian. In this book we saw loads from his third-person-perspective (like in Crown Of Midnight) and I loved it. I just HOPE that he’s in the next one!

(There are loads of other characters that I would loveee to talk about, but If I continue this review will be about 10000 words long).

Plot/Pace/and everything else:

So I feel like over all there was this steady incline in tension through the first half of the book. It was like we had loads of puzzle pieces and all that had to be done was put them together, but there were so many puzzle pieces you had no idea of where to begin.

The book followed loads of third person perspectives: Chaol, Aedion, Dorian, Sorscha (a really cute character that’s also new), Celaena, Rowan, and Manon Blackbeak (a witch that has her own separate story line in this book). I think that over all I would have loved to see more from Rowan, but then again, him not having a large character perspective keeps that mysterious feel about him.

Because of all of these perspectives, I feel like there were three stories happening at once, and I wasn’t sure how all of them fit together, and I’ve only just sussed why Manon is there (well, I have a hunch). But all the perspectives really kept me hooked as I JUST NEEDED to know what was happening to them all. I was even counting the chapters down until I would see a character again.

I think that I preferred hearing from Aedion, because he was new and had and interesting way into the novel, Celaena, because SOOO much was happening with her, and Rowan because I really wanted know more about him.

The plot was just crazy overall. So much was happening and I was actually feeling the tension. Damn you, Sarah J Mass for your long chapters and 1000 perspectives! And the tension was sky high and I swear, I may to even survive the next book if it’s got more tension than this one.
