Milk and Honey Review.

Gahhh, Milk and Honey was fantastic!

milk and honey is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. It is about the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. It is split into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose, deals with a different pain, heals a different heartache. milk and honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.

I absolutely loved it. When I read the first part of the book “The Hurting” I was absolutely wrecked. It was so emotional and literally swamped me with feelings. I’ve seen some reviews where they say how the poems were simple and weren’t really poetry, but I found the opposite. I thought that the simplicity of the poems made the words more powerful and meaningful as the writer wasn’t trying to show off with rhyme schemes and fancy techniques. 

I loved the mix of long and short poems. Some covered two full pages, or a while page, while some were only a few words. I think that a lot of my favourites came from ‘The Hurting’ and ‘The Breaking’ as I found the words Rupi Kaur wrote so  powerful and touching. ‘The Breaking’ consisted of much longer poems, and displayed so much raw emotion.

If you were thinking of picking up this book I highly recommend it. It is so good.
