Illuminae Review

hello hello helloooooooooooooooooo,

It has taken me farfarfarfarfar too long to read this book. (I’ve been saying that a lot recently?)

BUT back on track, ILLUMINAE!!!

SUPERSUPERSUPER happy I’ve read this now. I want the second one desperately. So if anyone per chance knows my full address and just has a random copy of Gemina lying around, just send it to me, yeh?

23395680.jpgThis morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an
ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it.
With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other
—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started.A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating,
with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge
will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring
it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

BRIEFING NOTE: Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails,
schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping,
high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

The layout, made me a little hesitant to read it at first, i was all like “AHHH NOOO, MY SIMPLE LITTLE BRAINNNNN WONT understand WHATS GOING ON!!!” however,,,, I don’t think it could have been clearer what was going on. The files were so concise and told you literally everything that was going on.

Have you ever seen a book this unique??????????????

Sometimes I was having to twist and turn the book, reading in a spiral, or turn it upside-down and it was so ingenious!

And it wasn’t just the layout that was unique, I don’t think that I’ve ever read something so detailed and perfectly unique before. I was sucked into the word from the very first page, and it was all so REAL.

WORLD BUILDING = PHENOMENAL

I haven’t read sci-fi before, and boy, was this a BRILLIANT way to get into the genre!!

KADY KADY KADY, THE BRILLIANT KADY!

She was amazingggg!! She is such a clever character and so fuc8ing brave! She was so ballsy and courageous, and her sarcasm was brilliant the entire way though and he whole story was great. GAH, i love her character.

The plot (I’ve already spoken about this a little bit) was so quick and didn’t really hang about. You were literally thrown into this plot (just like the characters) and like them, you have to figure out what was going on a little bit.

Obviously, it wasn’t MINDBOGGLING, (I understood it so thats a pretty good sign that you all will too) but it was such. a. good. read. IT MADE YOU THINK and I lovedlovedlovedloved that about this book.

Obviously, I rate this book a 5/5, it was just the perfect read for me!

What are your thoughts on this book?

  1. I’ve been really hesitant to read this, because I’m not really a sci-fi fan, but there’s something about the format that I just can’t take it off my TBR! I’m just wondering if the story will be cool, or if the format will overtake everything! – Maddie x

    1. I thought the exact same! It was my reading group which pushed me towards this book– and I’m so incredibly happy that they did!! If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have read this AMAZING book,

  2. Illuminae….it’s been a journey! I bought it almost a year ago, started reading it and just stopped when I was almost done. I have no clue why, I was enjoying the book, I just stopped reading it! If I start reading it again, it would probably be wise to start again from the beginning, since it took me so long to pick it up again. But really though, I have no clue why I just stopped reading….🤔😂

    1. Hmmmmnn, that’s strange… no? Hopefully you get to finish it soon. (Tbh, I had a bit of an inclination to stop randomly and almost did — you’re not alone!)

      1. Fingers crossed? Perhaps it’s got to do with the way the book is written? Like all the files and reports within the normal way books are written?🤔
