I AM SO SLOW AT READING BOOKS I SWEAR!! I PURCHASED THIS BOOK LAST FRICKING YEARRR AND I ONLY STARTED IT THIS MONTH?? WHY DID I WAIT THIS LONG?? IM DERANGED, BUT THATS OK.
Anyway, not I’ve got that ^ out of my system I can proceed to actually be normal… wait,,, who am I kidding with that?
So Lady Fricking Midnight… it was some craaazy stuff that has thoroughly made me regret waiting this long to get around to it.
In a kingdom by the sea…
In a secret world where half-angel warriors are sworn to fight demons, parabatai is a sacred word.
A parabatai is your partner in battle. A parabatai is your best friend. Parabatai can be everything to each other—but they can never fall in love.
Emma Carstairs is a warrior, a Shadowhunter, and the best in her generation. Shoulder to shoulder with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, she patrols the streets of Los Angeles, where vampires party on the Sunset Strip, and faeries—the most powerful of supernatural creatures—teeter on the edge of open war with Shadowhunters. When the bodies of humans and faeries turn up murdered in the same way Emma’s parents were when she was a child, an uneasy alliance is formed. This is Emma’s chance for revenge—and Julian’s chance to get back his brother Mark, who is being held prisoner by the faerie Courts. All Emma, Mark, and Julian have to do is solve the murders within two weeks…and before the murderer targets them.

So imma start with writing style bc why not. So Cassie Clare has this writing style that mades these daunting 670 page long novels so easy to read. The writing is so encapsulating and BEAUTIFULLLL. I don’t know how she does ittttttt. THE WORDSSSS. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.
Like everyotherdamncassandraclarebook this world building was phenomenal. A lot of knowledge from the other book had obviously helped a lot, but everything is explained in a way that doesn’t slow down the pace. Speaking of which, the plot was great, it was pretty fast through the beginning and the end it sky-rocketed and made the book sodamnintense! I think at one point I read half the book in a day because I just hadtoknowwhatwashappeningnext and no regrets at all.
I feel like some of the content in the beginning could have been cut a little bit, since the book was sooooo long, but then again, it added to the characters(?) so it was needed also. The characters were a little lacking in the beginning I feel, and I didn’t feel thattttt connected to all of them straight away as there were loadssss of them, but the development was really great across the novel and there were key characters, but even the background characters had a really strong personality showing through.
Like in EVERY Cassandra Clare book there were AMAZING romances and my hawt was unable to cope it was so great and dammnn those scenes were greattt. There were really unexpected friendships too in this book, and I really appreciated the friendship between Christina and Emma as it was really real(?) and showed an amazing friendship in the novel, not just romances.
There was a character in this book with autism and there was a really large amount of diversity in the book as a whole which is great because diversity should be a default spect to a book, and I don’t think I can remember the last time I read a book with an autistic character and it was so nice to have this in the book. It made conflicts, but this character was so smart and showed how people with autism aren’t fully understood and overlooked because this character was so smart and clever and just because he was different and classed as “not normal” it would mean that people wouldn’t treat him correctly and I think that this spread a great message to readers.
Ultimately, this was a great book that blew my mind and had all the great aspects I thought it would and definitely lived up to all the hype I’ve been hearing for the past year. let me know what you think in the comments because I adore booktalk like there’s no tomorrow.
