WHAT IT’S REALLY LIKE BEING A BOOK BLOGGER ‘LU READS’ STYLE. HOW I BLOG + BOOK BLOGGER STRUGGLES INCLUDED.

Being a book blogger is sometimes stressful af. Sometimes it’s like, “impale my demonic soul with holy water icicles, how will I cope?” yet it’s absolutely brilliant and now I couldn’t imagine not being book blogger.

But sometimes. I just notice how much my life has changed.

Most of the time we come across as this:

I know, weird. But really, we’re all like this:

giphy-1-3.gif

Personally, I think book bloggers are really embarrassing in the BEST WAY possible. I literally have no filter on this blog and embarrass myself THE ENTIRE TIME and look like a loony and like I never even had marbles to lose to begin with.

1. JOKE-SCREAM AT OTHER BLOGGERS THAT YOU HARDLY KNOW AND ARGUE OVER WHO OWNS WHO.

We’re possessive of our characters. I don’t know about you, but if someone tries to claim a book that I love. . . just. . . don’t even try.

giphy-12.gif
this will be me.

It’s actually brilliant. It’s so easy to become friends with other book bloggers because you can just bond with them over any book and scream-fangirl about it together.

2. SOMETIMES I SPEND MORE TIME BLOGGING THAN ACTUALLY READING. I KNOW, GO FIGURE.

tenor

Sometimes you just need to just put some more time into your blog, get organised and focus on it. Get the reviews done, get tags and awards ticked off of the list.

AND I KNOW. Reading is life. Butttttttttttttttttttt: those. reviews. need. to. get. done.

(not that you need to review every single book, though usually, I do.)

ann-youre-beautiful-and-youre-organised.gif

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I stress about how to actually get all my posts done and read at the same time WHEN THERE IS NO NEED TO STRESS AT ALL.

(she says while stressing. just kidding.)

Because you really don’t want to end up like this:

signs-you-love-game-thrones

You just need to get the balance that suits you.

3. MIND BLANKS.

Sometimes (and by this I mean frequently) you get these moments where nothing comes to mind. This tends to happen when you have ALL THE FREE TIME IN THE WORLD and yet there’s nothing in your brain. giphy-9.gif

OR BETTER YET. You’re writing a review and words fail you and you just cannot think of how to phrase anything.

This happens all the time.

giphy-6-2.gif It’s literally the worst thing because sometimes you LOVE a book and it’s like, “how can I put this across in a sane way?” or I’M HAVING THIS EXACT MOMENT RIGHT NOW I KID YOU NOT.

Its like a massive brain sloth moment. HOW. WHY. WHY. WHY. WHY.

I know 0 words right now.

4. YOU WANT TO READ ALL THE BOOKS TO REVIEW BUT SLEEP MAY ALSO BE NEEDED AND YOU CAN’T JUST STEAL ALL THE BOOKS.

I’m going to rob a bank one day.

1480045005086.gif

There are just too many books that we all want to read. Blogging just becomes a multitude of desperate bookworms shouting to the internet all their book longings and screaming about HOW THEY JUST NEED ‘X’ BOOK.

Gah I wish that I could but so many books right now.

C7eJ5vyVYAAtd8v.jpg
guys. this is me.

AND I WISH THAT I COULD STAY UP UNTIL 4 AM READING.

. . . but my eyes start to do this thing where they close when I tell them not to when it’s late and I stop processing what I’m reading.

It’s not just me, right?

5. I SEEM LIKE AN UNSOCIABLE BEAST HUMAN TO MY FAMILY BECAUSE I’M ON SOCIAL MEDIA TALKING TO OTHER BLOGGERS.

I’m not trying to say “ooooohohoohh look at me everyone loves me,” but A LOT to blogging is COMMUNICATING with other bloggers and being open and NETWORKING.

Fancy term “networking” but really all you do is say “hey” on twitter or drop a comment and there we go.

I need to get way better at this. TALK WITH ME IN THE COMMENTS PLEASE I LOVE TALKING.

blahblahblah

I really do. I think that another reason that I made a blog is to TALK because I love it and I think I was driving my family insane and I was talking their ears off by just constantly talking about books and reading and other crazy stuff that I now talk about here.

I actually need to get better at talking with people.

6. YOU WORRY ABOUT OPINIONS.

The book blogging world is a VERY opinionated place, no doubt about it. And expressing your opinion is a good thing.

But sometimes when you don’t like a book, or whatever you can get SUPER ANXIOUS about someone finding that posts and screaming at you.

tumblr_m33n13d6qI1r70pvuo1_500.gif

It’s just there. And we shouldn’t feel that way!

Is this relatable? Is it a complete load of bs on the internet? Let me know!

  1. LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU WHY ARE YOU SOOO RELATABLE? Why is this POST so relatable?? And why do you think you have permission to go walking around in my brain??? *looks at you with accusing face* JUST KIDDINGGGG!

I totally get the first point. I said I adopted Bilbo from The Hobbit in a recent post and someone else claimed him and said ‘NO’. Let World War 3 begin. (I just kidnapped him so it was all good in case you are wondering)

I totally get the more blogging than reading. That happens to me when I have school. When i have holidays like now, I find an amazing balance but school takes over reading and then I need to blog and *dies*

I WILL ALWAYS worry if my discussion posts even make sense? AM I SANE LU?

AND OI OI OI! I will waltz around your brain if I so please so SHUSH CHILD.

OML I really hope that you win WW3.. . OOOooohhhhh kidnapppppingggg… my favourite past time (I only kidnap the ones that try and steal 1) my beast babies and 2) characters I’ve claimed the souls of)

SAME HERE. Right now I’ve got a really good balance (I should probably schedule more posts by reading *throws books everywhere and vanquishes those that tell me to stop reading so much*).

RIGHT NOW IM QUESTIONING WHETHER ANYTHING I’VE EVER SAID MAKES SENSE.

      ARE WE SANE ILSA????????

      1. NO MY HUMOUR IS PRECIOUS. Everyone steals it and now…AND NOW IT’S RUNNING OUT. Don’t blame me if i’m not funny (#excuses for being boring)

KIDNAPPING CHARACTERS IS THE BEST . I have claimed about 67 souls right now. Gimme a second just need to check on some of my characters living in my heart.

ARE WE INSANE is the real question here Lu.

    1. I mean.. . if I knew that there would be so many struggles I wouldn’t have jumped into blogging so blindly. . . JUST KIDDING ITS THE BEST THING EVER.

OML which season are you watching I love that show so dang much!

  2. OMG this was sooooo fun to read, great post Lu! I definitely agree with you on all of your points. While I love reading I’ve found myself rambling on and on with my blogging buddies about books rather than actually reading. I literally shut myself away from humans for hours on end just with my laptop and social media to keep me company. I don’t have many friends who are as serious about reading as I am so social media has definitely filled that hole in my life. 😀

    1. Awww thank you!! Yes me too!! My friends IRL don’t read, or if they do, it’s the classics that I’m not really into.

URRRRRRRGGG I ramble so so sososoososo much it’s unreal. I think that sometimes I’ve written reviews over the 1000 word count because I was just hyperventilating/fangirling and. . . that review was 100% mess I tell you.

      😀

  3. I completely get what you mean about mind blanks! If I read an amazing book I struggle to articulate how much I loved it and it just ends up in a big mess of words haha

    NEW GIRL-GIFS, YAY!

VAMPIRE DIARIES!! I want more Damon. Please?

I’m having one of those blogging nights right now.
I had to schedule my Waiting on Wednesday’s because I’ll be on holiday and I don’t want to let my blog die.
[Is this going to be another number on your list? It has to!]

    4. Nope, not just you. My TBR is going through the roof. Goodreads and physical one.
I wish I had more money to spend. I’d rather have my physical TBR go insane than my Goodreads-one.
At least the physical one motivates me to read more, haha!
[Oh, and I fall asleep reading a lot. A. LOT.]

    6. YES! I reread my reviews like ten times to be sure I won’t offend anyone.
And if there’s a tiny chance that I might, I just keep my fingers crossed that the particular person will realize that it’s MY opinion and doesn’t have to be theirs as well.
Or, like, the other way around. Their opinion doesn’t HAVE to be mine either.

OH MY GOD YOU FORGOT ALL THE PREP THAT IT TAKES WHEN YOU NEED TO POOF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS.
    OR WEEKS.
Weeks in my case. I’m off for two weeks and the blogging preparation is eyeing me.
    Mad-eyeing me.
[I just made an unconscious HP-reference and I’m to feel awesome about it now.]

    1. I didn’t include stuff about prepping and scheduling etc because *whispers* that’s coming in another post (that I need to start writing but #MindBlank!! Yay!!

Honestly, trying not to offend everyone is impossible… YET I STILL TRY AND MAKE SURE I DON’T OFFEND ANYONE???? Logic??? nope, none here.

on Goodreads I have no click control and literally end up just clicking “want to read” over and over???? WHY do I do this to myself???

      DAMMMMONNNN ❤

*I appreciate your most random and longest comment that you ever wrote*

      1. That one should come with a “WARNING FOR NEW BLOGGERS OR IF YOU’RE THINKING ABOUT BLOGGING” because that really is THE thing that I underestimated when I started my blog two months ago. :’)
Mindblanks suuuuuck! Hope you get rid of it soon!

It really is and there’s no logic in it at all. Except for the fact that we can at least claim to have tried not to offend anyone? I’d say that’s the logic behind it right there!

Because.. BOOKADDICT. I try to limit myself but it’s so haaaard. Then people start asking me for my book wishlists for my upcoming birthday and I’m like “NONONO. I’m not going to look through that list because I’ll end up adding fifty more and I want to avoid that!” But.. getting books.. for free.. *ends up adding those fifty and more anyway*

YESSH! I have to quit my Shadowhunters-spree and go back to beautiful Damon. Even though Jace isn’t too bad to look at either, haha!

*Is glad that it’s appreciated since not everyone does, haha!*

        1. OMG YESSS.

OMG when people ask what I want tour my birthday its just books!! And they end up getting me something else that I actually wanted?? Don’t get me wrong, I love books, but I feel bad just asking for books?? Like,, I get them all the time anyways.

omg YES GO BACK TO DAMON. REWATCH THE ENTIRE THING DAMON IS AMAZING.

          1. Hahah! I completely get that. Especially since someone asked me how many physical TBR’s I have [yesterday] and I had to go and count them.. Knowing that I currently have 101 I just feel like I can NOT ask for more books for my birthday.. But I want to.. The struggle! D:

Watched the Shadowhunters season finale [2

Watched the Shadowhunters season finale [2] yesterday and had to cry. Ugh. Jace dying is never ever a good thing.
After that, Damon lifted my spirits! Although his pining over Elena got a little on my nerves, haha.

            1. WAT JACE DIES IN THE TV SHOW?? I HAVEN’T GOT TO THAT BIT YET.

Yeessss I wish that Elena realised that she loved him not Stephen way sooner (she did) because it would have moved everything along way faster.
