I received an E-Book format of the Devil’s Advocate from Michaela Haze (the author) at the beginning of the month, thank you so much for sensing me this for an honest review.
The Devil’s Advocate is being released on the 28th September, so be sure to look out for it! Here’s a bit more about it. . .
Dahlia Clark is a Hell Broker. You want to sell your soul, she’s your girl.
The only problem? She’s not seen her boss, Luc, in over two centuries.
Not since he forced her out of hell, out of his bed and condemned her to be his eyes and ears on the surface.
As far as breakups go, it could have been better!
When Dahlia meets Samuel Rose, a male incubus with the London Underground scene wrapped around his finger, things are looking up in the romance department.
At least she can dust off a few of those cobwebs.
Wrong.
Lucifer doesn’t like it when people play with his things.
It doesn’t matter that he dumped her over two hundred years ago. The Devil wants Dahlia back, whatever the cost.
So everyone, take out your cakes and prepare for my review.
WHAATT I ACTUALLY READ A BOOK FOR ONCE?
Serious question: can I be a book?
The first thing that I want to concentrate on is the world building. Without a doubt, THE WORLD BUILDING WAS REALLY GOOD. There was a lot to take in, but there were never huge info dumps, which was brilliant.
And the world was actually super interesting. The book was also really fast paced, or I found so anyways, and then all these things combined to make the book really easy to get into. I think that on the first day of starting this I was already 50% done??? Like,,, it was just really easy to get into and just kept going at a really good pace.
At first I had mixed opinions about the main character. I thought that she was so kick-ass and brilliant (so vague, lu!) in the beginning and I loved her sass, but then she was upset and talking about her shoes a lot?? I mean, damn, she must have looked fabulous, but she—for a while— just talks about how she was sad and her shoes and I couldn’t fully grasp her emotions sometimes.
The book actually had a lot of humour too. . . WHICH I WAS NOT EXPECTING and there was a lot of sarcasm #MyNativeTongue and that really came through in the writing.
BUT LUIZ. WAS SUPER FUNNY AND ONE OF MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS. He’s the MC’s assistant / hellhound and just doesn’t care. He was great from the start, but his personality GREW a lot, and he became really fabulous about half way through the book.
All the side characters were SO well developed. I’m only realising JUST NOW how many characters they were and they were all REALLY well developed. They had really strong personalities and that was brilliant. ABE, MY BEATING HEART BE STILL. HE’S MINE.
There were so many plot twists, which made it really interesting, I think that there were a few super big plot twists, however I did think that one of them was sort of predictable close up to the event. Apart from that, the book kept on surprising me and was just generally mysterious. IT WENT IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT DIRECTION TO WHAT I THOUGHT. WHICH WAS GREAT.
Watch me as I say super vague things to make you want to read this book ^^^
OKAY, THERE WAS A LOT OF VIOLENCE. I LOVE VIOLENCE IN BOOKS. It made my black, stubby heart very happy and I just,,, Every time that someone I liked did something kick-ass-violent I was happy. I was happy a lot. Which is not natural since I am Empress of the Galaxies and feel no emotion apart from anger.
And literally ALL OF THE CHARACTERS WERE MORALLY GREY AND THAT WAS SUPERB. You should know by now that I love a morally grey character, and then BAM a book filled with them??? YES PLS. And, the society that was involved had so many secrets which made it super interesting. However, I didn’t get extremely emotionally invested??? I liked everyone just fine, but it wasn’t like my heart broke for the characters.
The main relationship wasn’t a mega-ship for me. I don’t know what it was, but I could commit to it. I felt that it was a bit toxic???, and that the characters were too dependant on the relationship and feeling wanted by the other a bit?? Idk,,, there was just something about it that didn’t feel greaaaatt.
Also, the book was RATHER SEXUAL SO. . . I wouldn’t recommend this if you aren’t comfortable reading about those sort of things could my phrasing of that be any more awks? Just be quiet Luuuu. That aspect leads me to say that this is much more an “adult” book than “YA”.
I wasn’t fully consumed by this book, like I sometimes am by others, however, the writing style was super nice, and in a style that made it really easy to read.

Characters who don’t have a definite line defining them are great and intriguing, aren’t they? I mean, it’s well and good when a character is super sweet and good and innocent and complacent but DU-UDE! show me that he is HUMAN! LET ME SEE HIM FLIPPP!! And since there are no BLACK & WHITE people in real life, I just adore it when a character in a book are flawed and vulnerable and aren’t branded and segregated into a good vs bad pile.
And if this book is FULL of them, gimmee…gimmee it! 😂
Will definitely check this one out. And it was a lovely review, Luuu…❤❤
