GEEKS RULE // GEEKERELLA REVIEW BY ASHLEY POSTON.

GEEKS JUST RULE THE WORLD OKAY??

I read this book last month and I DEVOURED this book in a day because (A) I eat books (B) it was cute (C) it was a fast contemporary that made me feel like a fluffy dragon ball of cuteness (D) everyone was smol and I declared my love for them by ingesting them.

I loveeeedd this book A LOT. I’ve been reading so many books that appreciate online life recently. . .OKAY JUST TWO. .. but waaaaaaaa they make me so happy.

* Love the fangirl aspect —> I am a #fangirl and that’s not really shown in books that much??? Elle was such a lil smol nerd and was so lovely. SHE’S SO CUTE.AND SO PASSIONATE ABOUT STARFIELD!!!!

* Darien was such a secret lil fanboy and is now another one of my boyfriends. He’s really lovely deep down, and we got to see loads of his personality bcDUAL POV!!! <– FAVE THING. (yeah Darien too I guess. . . ahah yes.) * CINDERELLA RETELLING!!! LOVEED IT!! * Naturally with a Cinderella retelling you get an evil stepmother and stepsisters. . . AN OHHH WHERE THEY PRESENT. I LOATHE THEM SM. Can Catherine and Chloe go away now. PLEASE. * I got so invested (read it in a day!) — much more than I expected — and found it SOOO cuteeeee and was squealing for 35698% of the book.

“My dad said that the impossible is only impossible if you don’t even try.

So I want to try.”

* SAGE!!! –>SUPER COOL, FUNKY, DIVERSE. ALSO!! Positive F/F Friendships and discusses how lesbians can have female friends and this book shuts down homophobia #yasssss. Sage = fabulous fairy godmother who has the bestGREEN HAIR. SEWING GENIUS. So many people judge her for thingsWHEN THEY DON’T EVEN KNOW HER and this made me so angry because it was SO RELATABLE and the way that she just did not care and basically gave everyone, that deserved it, shade was just making me scream “yasss” whenever she reappeared in the book.

SHE IS THE FAIRY GODMOTHER.

“She wears life like Elvis wore sequins, with no apology laced into the seams.”

OMG YASSS TO RETELLINGGSSSS I LOVE THEM NOW.

* This book had a lot aboutJUDGEMENT. Judging by appearances, social status, family life, sexuality!!! And how judging people is a terrible thing to do and that people need to just #STOPNOW. ANDDDD it was also about EXPECTATIONS. I just felt so bad for Darien because people kept EXPECTING him to be something that they wanted, rather then letting Darien do what HE wanted to do, and being who HE wanted to be.

* I really love how Elle and Darien’s relationship started and continued over texting before they met each other where they couldn’t judge each other by what they looked like. ALSO.I JUST WANTED THEM TO MEET THROUGH THE WHOLE THING.
* And when they did. . . they didn’t even know who each other were and fought 2/4 times that they were together in the book. . . totally unaware. . . HA BANTS.

-“Elle, we might not know much about each other, and I might not be there, and you might not be here, but I’m glad I share this sky with you.

-Maybe we should start looking up together, ah’blena”

* Errrr so like. . . with quite a few contemporaries I’ve had the same lil problem:the romance happened rather FAST. I think more so for Darien, than Elle, but still. It was kinda unrealistic from that side (EVEN THOUGH THE WHOLE PLOT ISN’T EXACTLY REALISTIC — not a bad thing) but somehow I still found it really cute!!! Still, I’m going to give this book 4/5 stars (4.5 really. . .) because I would have liked the book to maybe be set over just a little longer to slow down the relationship a smidge??

  1. Lovely review! I’m really happy to hear you enjoyed this book so much, it sounds ADORABLE and like the kind of book I’d love for sure! Characters that are a bit of a nerd and fangirls are totally my thing 😅 and positive f/f friendships just as well, we need way more of these ❤

  3. I loved this book so much as well !! I think we don’t really see a lot of technology in books which is wring because is such a huge part of our daily lives… I loved that pretty much all the characters were fan girls haha cause I’m a fan girl and literally that is all I did when I wrote my review for this book 😂💙

  4. LOVED GEEKERELLA!!! I seriously read it in pretty much one sitting because it was so fun and cute! Like I absolutely LOVED Darien and Elle’s relationship it was adorable and her and sage?? DREAM TEAM. This was literally the most fun retelling and it actually inspired me while I was writing one of my creative writing papers for Uni. I’m excited to read Ashley Poston’s new book coming out although it is very different from Geekerella but I know she’s a true fan girl so it will be just as fun to read!!

  5. DUAL POVs??? I LOOOVE THEM TOO!! Gives a relief from the usual nagging thoughts of ust one character, right?? AND HELL YEAH, GEEEKS RULE THE WORLD! And….WAIT A SECOND???!! This book is about JUDGING PEOPLE FROM THEIR APPEARANCE??!? Then why have I been postponing reading it for soo long? I thought about pre-ordering it (back when it was un-released) on AMAZON but decided against it. I AM TELLING YOUUU, I would not have considered picking the book up if it wasn’t for YOUR REVIEW!!! LOOOVED IT! ❤ I LOVE IT WHEN YOU USE THE WORD ‘smol’ SOO CUTE! ❤

  6. I loved this it was so fluffy and adorable (am I talking about your review or the book hmmm we shall never know!!…ok i am talking about the book but pfft how does one even phrase a comment)

Internet appreciation is my fave thing because I appreciate the internet in real life so why not have it EVERYWHEREEE?? Elle being a blogger?? Sign me up!! (Though I would’ve liked to see her actually blogging…alas I shall accept this for now it’s a start)

Yeah romances in contemporaries always tend to move rather fast. I mean…they have to get togheter by the end of one book but still…you’ve only texted her like twice don’t ah’blena her young man.

The f/f romance was amazingly out of the blue AND CAN I JUST SAY THAT IF YOU’RE GOING TO THROW IN AN UNEXPECTED TWIST MAY IT ALWAYS BE EXTRA DIVERSITY?? Ok thanks.

Also your review is fabulously amazing ❤!!

Yeah, I think that happens too in the “average” contemporary ya book. . . EXACTLY, they got attached super quick, but I was shipping it?? Internally I was so conflicted. I thought, “AWW CUTE!!” but at the same time “NOOO THIS IS TOO SOON!!”
Yesss the diversity plot twist was greeaaaaaatttt and I just LOVE their friendship!!

AWW thank you so much!! And thank you so much for discussing the book with me! ❤ ❤

  8. Geekerella is yet another book I really want to read! I always had a feeling it would end up being a 4 star/4.5 star book since it just seems like the sort of book for lighthearted, fun reading that’s enjoyable, you’ll finish in no time but not the most amazing book in the world!

    1. AHHHHH THANK YOUUU!!!!!
Hmmmmm idkkkk because the romance isn’t HUGE HUGE in the beginning, but it does become a big part of the book?? kinda like the romance in starfish????

BUT YES THE MESSAGES AND DIVERSITY.

  9. Such a great review, I’ve always been hesitant to reading this book, but your review made me want to read it so badly. The relationship between the female and the male protagonists sounds so cuteee! And I’m so happy that there are F/F positive friendships because we really need more in literature!! ❤
