The Rising Author Tag: Talk On Present & Future WIPs, Torture Of Characters and General Flailings ft. Aesthetics.

1) It’s been an age since I spoke about my WIP(s) 2) since when do I do tags?

Okay, so the last time that I spoke about an actual WIP that I was doing was soooo long ago. Okay, I don’t even think that it was even that long ago! You can find it here (part of a wrap-up!) or here (which actually was AGES AGO!)

I want to thank MAY for nominating me for this tag, and you can find her posts here.

RULES

  • No tagging back
  • Tag four people
  • Thank the person who tagged you
  • Come up with 10 new questions (May added this rule to avoid confusion!!)

Here are May’s questions!IMG_1882

what is your current WIP about, and what’s its status? (ie. plotting, writing, editing, etc.) — just putting it out theRE MAY IS MEAN

So my current WIP is basically about this kingdom in a huge continent where the king has banned these powers and his daughter is to be sacrificed and then she ends up feeling and she basically bands together with other people who have these powers and it’s all about them taking over the kingdom. SO DARK I LOVE.

I’m literally torturing all the characters and making them feel PAIN andit’s so fun to make them hurt.Howeverrrrr… there’s a second one that I’m sort of collecting ideas for SINCE MY BRAIN CANNOT STOP AND FOCUS ON ONLY ONE, and that’s contemporary and about a soft boy™ who has anxiety and suffers from abuse and is also a speed skater (the abuse he receives is rooted in this –> father overly pushing and mean™).

He meets this girl (who is of African American descent who loves to paint + stay in her head while she does) in school while doing a group project (no romance) and they both learn how to handle, not fix what they’re going through and support each other and  become friends and have an adventure!IMG_1882

do you plot things out and/or outline, or just figure it out as you write?

OUTLINE OUTLINE OUTLINE.

Basically, all of the WIP1 that wrote about above is all outlining, which I’m going to keep on expanding and working on in my free time, and then hopefully start to write during the summer holidays. –> hopefully all the outlining will make it easier when writing because I will have MORE to write on/look back on for inspo!

^^^^ I actually sound like I know what I’m doing.. I don’t.

WHY ARE THESE QUESTIONS SO DIFFICULT?IMG_1882

what are some book ideas you want to write in the future?

Obviously, I mentioned the contemporary project that I’m going to start working on??? I’m not sure when!

Since when do I know what I’m doing?

… oh wait…. never.

IMG_1882

out of the characters you’ve written so far, who are your favourites?

characters?

IMG_1882what’s your writing routine if any? (ie. snacks, music, time of day, location, etc.)

I usually just attack my keyboard? I tend to write at night??? In bed??? And I can;t write with music on because then I end up getting confused with what I’m trying to write?????????????????????????

^^^ as you can tell, I AM NOT GOOD AT TALKING ABOUT MY WRITING.IMG_1882

show your WIP’s aesthetic in images or words (or both)!

ERM okay, Pinterest screenshots here we come. (I’m professional okay??? DON’T QUESTION IT. )

what (or who) motivates you to write?

I think that a lot of writing blogs motivate me, as well as those in the book community who also scream about writing.

Reading books inspires me and motivates me to keep on working towards my writing and to constantly strive to make my writing the best that it can be.IMG_1882

what do you find is the easiest part of writing? The hardest?

hardest = talking people.

why do people even need to talk! I think that as I develop as a writer I’d like to delve into more marginalised diversities, but right now I find it really tricky because OBVIOUSLY, I can’t be as thorough as I’d like when it comes to researching diversities to make sure that I do it right I think that one of the easiest parts is just description. It’s great to pad out a scene, control pace and the focus of the reader!IMG_1882

what genre will you never try, and why?

I don’t think that I’ll ever really try sci-fi? It’s not really my genre to read, and I just,, I’d worry too much about plot holes! One that I would also stay away from is Historical Fiction because of ALL THE RESEARCH????? It’s enough to research while writing a contemporary set IN OUR TIME let alone having to know everything about a different era! (EVEN THOUGH I STUDY HISTORY???)

IMG_1882

Am I tagging people????? NOOOO because I don’t know who does a wip thing/ who writes???? SO. TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS??

chat with me

Do you have a WIP? What is it about??? DO YOU PLOT, WRITE, OR JUST WHACK DOWN IDEAS AS THEY ARRIVE? Who are some of your favourite characters that YOU’VE written?? Do you SHARE your WIPS? Are you planning any more for the future??  Let me knowww!!!

  1. Both your WIP sound SO GOOD. I especially have a soft spot for your contemporary one, because soft boy?? Anxiety rep?? Dealing with abuse?? No romance between boy and girl?? Who support each other?? And an ADVENTURE?? Also the girl loves to paint?? *grabby hands* You’ve combined so many of my favourite things haha
My current WIP is a contemporary about a boy trying to deal with his anxiety/figure out his future and lots of friendship, but my brain is SCREAMING about all these other ideas (especially a sequel to my current one?? Like I haven’t even finished that one yet CALM DOWN BRAIN)

  2. OH oh oh oh oh you are talking about your WIP, I LOVE IT, it sounds amazing?! Also, your aesthetics are so, so pretty, all I want now are snippets and to read every single thing you write. You should talk about your WIPs more often…. just saying 😛

  4. I have two WIPs; one is in the rewriting realm, and the other on is in the plotting. 😛 I used to just make up stuff as I went *looks pointed at grade 7 self* but now I have to plot it all. Otherwise, I know it won’t turn out well. A favorite character of mine was one I based on myself because they could say all the sarcastic things that went through their head (whereas I cannot because I would get in SO much trouble 😂) and so they’re really sarcastic and fun. 😃 I used to share first drafts but I have decided against doing that anymore, and instead will wait until I’m at least done the first draft before even thinking about it.

  5. Oh great answers for these questions Lu, and I loved learning more about your WIP as well. 🙂 May tagged me in this one too and I can’t wait to answer her questions. I haven’t talked about my own WIP in a while and really it’s about time because talking about it always makes me more inspired to actually write it.
I’ve tried outlining, but whenever I start writing I always veer off, so I’m not sure how much help it is for me but I’m glad it works for you. Also your take over the kingdom WIP sounds amazing, I hope to hear more about it soon. 😀
Great aesthetics for all your WIPs, I really need to update my Pinterest boards for my WIP! All part of research right? 🙂 ❤

    1. Thanks so much Beth!!! Yesss, it’s really motivated me to work on my WIPS!!! I think that it’s important to be open to let your WIP veer off plans tho? Because if you limit what happens, you could limit the AWESOMENESS? Just let it some to you!!
Thank you so much!!! I’ve outlined SO much for this WIP, and I can’t wait to start it!! Aww thank you!! *cough* yes… “research”!!!

  6. My “WIPs” are currently lacking the ‘progress’. And the ‘work’. Whoops. I have a couple of half-formed ideas that I really like, but… I can’t seem to make ANY progress on plotting them. Mostly because I literally don’t have the slightest clue what the plot would actually be… They’re VERY vague ideas right now… In fact, I don’t think they’re half-formed, I think they’re like, two percent formed… 😂

  7. Your WIPs sound intriguing!
I have a couple projects in the works, none that I am too comfortable talking about just yet 😉
I like to just freewrite at first and see what happens. The story writes itself!
