Mini Reviews: Ramona Blue, Queens of Geek & Obsidio|4 Star Reads From June (ft. All The Screaming).

I loved all these books!! But, I’m too lazy to write full reviews!!

I read all of these books last month, and they all got 4/4.5 stars out of 5!! Also, it’s been a literal age since I published a review on here?? Who is terrible at reviews?? ME!!

It was my mum’s birthday at the weekend, and omg it was so nice and relaxing and the food guys. The FOOD.

And I honestly have no idea what to write in this into so I’m just going to ignore it.

41AGWv5Ub-L._SX328_BO1,204,203,200_I gave this ★★★★½!! I adored this story, I think that it was great and I adored the representation of finding out more about her sexuality and how it’s fluid. It wasn’t her being “fixed” or anything.

I didn’t completely understand Ramona’s character, sometimes I just thought “what on earth are you doing? why are you doing this?” and because of that there was this real cliche event that I just knew was going to happen from the get-go and that’s why it dropped to 4.5 stars. Also because there wasn’t that much plot. It could have been a bit more “plotty” but I think that the plot was Ramona finding/discovering herself.

All the side characters were wonderfully developed and I adore them. Saul was fabulous and deserves all the love in the world, he honestly does. He was fabulous and literally the Queen of Fun and all things Great.

“All my gay dreams are coming true”

It’s ^^  probably one of my favourite quotes in the whole book and comes from him. He honestly deserves everything and all the love ever.

Freddie is another example of an amazing side character. He’s the smollest, most understanding creature. And Ramona’s sister was also great and I loved how close they are. And there was so much food in this book.

I gave this book★★★★ because it was fluffy and wonderful.

The representation was brilliant, there was a bi Asian mc!! and the other MC was the fat character that is on the autism spectrum and anxiety!!

Jamie, a side character in the book was an absolute sunflower and just a smol human that’s probably really tall but will always be really smol in my mind.

There were so many Fangirls and Fanboys!! JUST ALL THE HUGE INTERNET PEOPLE REP!! WHICH MAKES MY HEART SO HAPPY. I just adore books with internet rep!!

“There’s no one way to be a girl, Tay. You don’t need to fit yourself into what society tells us a girl should be. Girls can be whoever they want.”

The romances were so great and I feel like the f/f one went a little fast, but I still really enjoyed it and I JUST LOVE THE REPRESENTATION. I think that it all went a little fast, because you know,,, it was set over three days.

BUT!! I would have liked a little more about anxiety, and sensory overload was kind of brushed over and I would have liked more?? And also,,, I feel like they were all so perfect, too perfect tbh (see quote above — it’s just all so perfect) and understandable and never made any mistakes and?? IT WAS A TAD UNREALISTIC and that’s why it dropped the star!!

24909347 I also have this book ★★★★ because it was great.

I’m still not over how amazing the formatting is. I just love Nik Malikov and his descriptions of the video footage. I just can’t get over how much I love him.

I feel like this was another fabulous book in the trilogy, and even though it took me three months to read, it’s one of my favourites.

So much action and deception and I am just trash for that. So trash for that. SO SO trash for that. There were some boring moments in the beginning, but it really picked up at the end and I was just gripped. I loved all of it.

“Live a life worth dying for.”

“Every story needs its hero. And its villain. And its monster.”

I wasn’t so fond of the conclusion. I was all for it, it was getting so GORY and PLOTTY and marvellous in the rebellion-ness and then… there was this ending and??? it wasn’t totally realistic??? I mean??? I think that it just fell flat a bit??

There were two HUGE plot twists (and absolutely nothing to with my fabulous Nik Malikov) and they had me on the edge of my seat and literally not breathing. It was great.

Despite the semi-unrealistic (ok, really unrealistic) ending, it was still a FANTASTIC read and just SO POW POW POW.

  1. QUEENS OF GEEK WAS SO FREAKING CUTE AND YES A HAPPY STORY FOR THE GAYS but I feel like Charlie’s romance/plot was really quickly solved at the end and the end with the tumblr post happy messages felt kind of unnecessary for me?

  2. I’m really glad you enjoyed all these books Lu. I haven’t read Ramona Blue myself but I have read Obsidio and Queens of Geek (I actually just got around to that one this month) and really loved them both. I thought the representation in Queens of Geek was amazing, there were so many amazing quotes and I really loved the friendship between Charlie and Taylor in particular. 😀
I kind of get what you mean about the ending of Obsidio being unrealistic, but I dunno I still loved it. For all these characters I loved and was kind of attached to it felt like the perfect ending for them you know?
Great reviews, and again I’m glad you enjoyed all these books as well. 🙂 ❤

  3. I absolutely loved both Obsidio and Queens of Geek! Everything totally did happen to fats in Queens of Geek, and it bugged me a little, but I just loved it so much still!!
And honestly even though the end of Obsidio was a bit unrealistic, I was just sort of glad too.

  4. I’ve had Ramona Blue on my TBR pile for a while now and I’m so happy I’m seeing positive reviews of it. For a while there was just so much hate around it simply because it was about a character finding out her sexuality might be more fluid than she thought, and it made me so mad to see such hateful comments about a real thing that happens to people. I’m definitely going to have to move it up on my TBR list 🙂

    1. Yeah, I feel like it’s a really touchy subject because some people may say that it’s the author trying to “cure” her or something. I hope that when you read it you love it as much (or more) than I did and it’s all that you hoped for!!

      1. I hope so too 🙂 I totally get where people are coming from but it’s just unfortunate that that is what people immediately jump to, though it is understandable.

  5. Ahhh, I’m currently reading the Illuminae Files and I just started the second book (Geminae?? I’m too lazy to get the book so I can check if the title is spelled correctly so I’m just relying on you knowing what I mean :)) and it’s so good! I’m glad to hear that Obsidio is just as amazing, although I wish you weren’t as disappointed by the ending because that means I probably will be too 😦 but I’m still loving the series and the plot twists and the unique format, so it’ll be totally worth it!

      1. I’M IN THE MIDDLE OF IT RN AND I CAN’T PUT IT DOWN! So don’t worry, I’m definitely still in love with this trilogy 🙂 I can’t get over the format either, it’s so unique! Kinda makes me wish more books were written this way.

  6. I’m so glad to read a postive review for Ramona *.* Okay, maybe I’m bit at fault since I’ve stil to read it, and I cannot really talk in depth of this novel, but I tend to get protective toward the theme. I was surprised to find so many negative reviews on GR and after discussing it with people I knpw, they told that what happened to Ramona happened to them too (the concept at least). So I got really protective about it, also because I hate to see my friends getting invalidated so frequently 😦

    Like

    1. Yeah, I think that it’s a really touch and go topic?? It can definitely be problematic when talking about the fluidity of sexuality because people can feel invalidated. I think that for me because I relate to this book in a number of ways, I felt pretty well represented, but that wouldn’t be the case for everyone. But i think that it’s a real converstation starter?? I hope that you give it a read : )
