The Falling in Love Montage (June 9th 2020) sapphic!! ❤

the cover is super cute so just get it for that, ok? this sounds super cute tho and you should read it too??? it sounds like an adorable ooops-i-fell-in-love-and-didn’t-mean-to which just SCREAMS ADORABLE??? OK???? SO?? LET’S ALL READ IT?

Saoirse doesn’t believe in love at first sight or happy endings. So she’s not looking for a relationship. She doesn’t see the point in igniting any romantic sparks if she’s bound to burn out.But after a chance encounter at an end-of-term house party, Saoirse is about to break her own rules. For a girl with one blue freckle, an irresistible sense of mischief, and a passion for rom-coms. Unbothered by Saoirse’s no-relationships rulebook, Ruby proposes a loophole: They don’t need true love to have one summer of fun, complete with every cliché, rom-com montage-worthy date they can dream up—and a binding agreement to end their romance come fall. It would be the perfect plan, if they weren’t forgetting one thing about the Falling in Love Montage: when it’s over, the characters actually fall in love… for real.

Boyfriend Material (July 7th)

sounds like the perf hate-to-love story that we all want NOW. YES PLEASE. ALL MINE. reminds me a littttttle teeeny tiiiiiny bit of Red White Royal Blue but instead of fake-friends-to-friends-to-boyfriends we have fake-bfs-to-real-bfs and it sounds HILARIOUS BUT CUTE. I WANT IT. NOW.

Luc O’Donnell is tangentially–and reluctantly–famous. Luc’s back in the public eye, and one compromising photo is enough to ruin everything. To clean up his image, Luc has to find a nice, normal relationship…and Oliver Blackwood is as nice and normal as they come. He’s a barrister, an ethical vegetarian, and he’s never inspired a moment of scandal in his life. In other words: perfect boyfriend material. Unfortunately apart from being gay, single, and really, really in need of a date for a big event, Luc and Oliver have nothing in common. So they strike a deal to be publicity-friendly (fake) boyfriends until the dust has settled. Then they can go their separate ways and pretend it never happened. But the thing about fake-dating is that it can feel a lot like real-dating. And that’s when you get used to someone. Start falling for them. Don’t ever want to let them go

Girl, Serpent, Thorn (July 7th) sapphic!!

pretty cover? hello? she can kill people with her touch?? is this envy? i think so!!! tho rly,,, , this sounds super creepy and i want?? lowkey haven’t read a fantasy book since *mumbles* last year but… I’m sure it’ll be fine?? it’ll be fine.

There was and there was not, as all stories begin, a princess cursed to be poisonous to the touch. But for Soraya, who has lived her life hidden away, apart from her family, safe only in her gardens, it’s not just a story. As the day of her twin brother’s wedding approaches, Soraya must decide if she’s willing to step outside of the shadows for the first time. Below in the dungeon is a demon who holds knowledge that she craves, the answer to her freedom. And above is a young man who isn’t afraid of her, whose eyes linger not with fear, but with an understanding of who she is beneath the poison. Soraya thought she knew her place in the world, but when her choices lead to consequences she never imagined, she begins to question who she is and who she is becoming…human or demon. Princess or monster.

Loveless, (july 7th)

#own-voices!! ace-author

I LOVE ALICE OSEMAN!! I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS ASEXUAL REPRESENTATION???? this book sounds like it’s going to smush my heart?? can someone be on stand-by to hugs me after i read it? i’m really gonna need it *stocks up on tissues*

Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush – but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she’s sure she’ll find her person one day. As she starts university with her best friends, Pip and Jason, in a whole new town far from home, Georgia’s ready to find romance, and with her outgoing roommate on her side and a place in the Shakespeare Society, her ‘teenage dream’ is in sight.

But when her romance plan wreaks havoc amongst her friends, Georgia ends up in her own comedy of errors, and she starts to question why love seems so easy for other people but not for her. With new terms thrown at her – asexual, aromantic – Georgia is more uncertain about her feelings than ever. Is she destined to remain loveless? Or has she been looking for the wrong thing all along?

The Extraordinaries (July 14th)

(HAVE NOT READ BUT SUPPORTS ACTIONS OF POLICE BRUTALITY/ VIOLENCE & MAKES JOKES ABOUT IT)

#own-voices!! queer-author

neurodiverse queer kids being extra-superheroes? sounds like my cup of tea!! GET. INTO. MY. CLAMMY. HANDS. this just sounds like perfection? yes please?

Some people are extraordinary. Some are just extra. TJ Klune’s YA debut, The Extraordinaries, is a queer coming-of-age story about a fanboy with ADHD and the heroes he loves. Nick Bell? Not extraordinary. But being the most popular fanfiction writer in the Extraordinaries fandom is a superpower, right? After a chance encounter with Shadow Star, Nova City’s mightiest hero (and Nick’s biggest crush), Nick sets out to make himself extraordinary. And he’ll do it with or without the reluctant help of Seth Gray, Nick’s best friend (and maybe the love of his life).

I Kissed Alice (July 28th) sapphic!!

HATE-TO-LOVE AGAIN??? PLEASE GET ON MY BOOKSHELF. Online frienship-turned-feelings while hating each other in person?? this book has the potential to be AMAZING AND I WANT IT. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD BE CUTE *insert ‘tm’ logo thing here*.

Rhodes and Iliana couldn’t be more different, but that’s not why they hate each other. Hyper-gifted artist Rhodes has always excelled at Alabama’s Conservatory of the Arts despite a secret bout of creator’s block, while transfer student Iliana tries to outshine everyone with her intense, competitive work ethic. Since only one of them can get the coveted Capstone scholarship, the competition between them is fierce. They both escape the pressure on a fanfic site where they are unknowingly collaborating on a graphic novel. And despite being worst enemies in real life, their anonymous online identities I-Kissed-Alice and Curious-in-Cheshire are starting to like each other…a lot. When the truth comes out, will they destroy each other’s future?

  3. I’m so excited for Girl, Serpent, Thorn!! I mean, morally grey characters and monster girlfriends 🥺 Also, Loveless is gonna save 2020, I’m calling it. Alice Oseman is one author I have lots of trust in, and I’m so excited to read a book with an ace/aro protagonist, because I’m ace-questioning, hehe

  5. Oh these all sound so good!!
Becky Abertalli is one of my faves so a) can’t wait for a new!! book!! (although I haven’t read Leah yet either oops) and b) anything described as perfect for Abertalli fans goes right on the tbr list. I always see her combined with Adam Silvera too but I haven’t read anything by him (apart from What If It’s Us)?? I so need to but his books just sound kind of intense?
Boyfriend Material also sounds great because fake dating is 100% my favourite trope. & Also you mentioning RW&RB just reminds me that I still have to read it! It’s been on my tbr list for so long and I’m so bad at just not reading hyped books until years later (*still mad about not getting to SoC sooner I won’t lie).

    1. 1) PLEASE READ RWBR!!!!
      2) Adam Silvera books are intense but worthh ittttttt!
      3) omg the boyfriend material does sound good,,, but now there are some reviews cropping up claiming it’s not so great??? 😦 *sobs*
4.1) OH MY GOSH LOVE, CREEKWOODDDDDD. I can’t wait?????
4.ii) are you gonna read the Leah book first or just dive into LC bc I kinda can’t be bothered for the leah book???

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Really?? That sucks.
And I don’t know actually because the reviews seem to be pretty mixed & I’ve heard there’s some problematic stuff in there so that’s leaning towards no? But I also feel like I can’t skip it when it’s technically a third installment so idk🥴

        Liked by 1 person

                1. yeaaahhh and it’s like,,, attatched to the Leah book I guess?? urggggg :/// I really didn’t want to read the Leah book *sobs like a two year-old having a tantrum* maybe I’ll ask s/o on GR that’s read an arc if it’s necessary???

                  Like

                    1. What i’ve gathered: it ight make more sense to read the Leah book, but unless you’re worried about spoilers it won’t be a problem to read LC!! I think I’m going to just read LC!! i kind of know what happens in the book so it won’t be too bad??

                      Liked by 1 person

  6. Okay, I think it is about due time I read something by Alice Oseman! Not sure which of her books I will like most, but I gotta start somewhere! 🙂 Great list!

  7. aah i literally just went through and added a lot of these to my tbr last night!!!! and i kissed alice/the falling in love montage both look like the sapphic story of my DREAMS!!! i’m super excited for so many of these ❤ thank you for putting this list together (and yes the formatting PAIN!!)

        1. Saaaaameeeeeeee!!! It makes me anxious to read it!!! i already ahad to remove some books from here because I found reviews (many many many reviews) about how awful they were when they could have been absolutely amazing *sobs*

          Liked by 1 person

                1. OMG YES EXACTLY. Same here… i already had some doubts about the republican stuff?? hoping that the love interest would be a Dem too?? but ://// apparently not and instead the writer just literally took RWRB and made it rly harmful to poc and qpoc!! like!! wut!!

                  Liked by 1 person

                  1. omg RWRB was amazing (plot, rep, characters – qpoc!!) and the fact it’s being compared as a worse version of that? makes me MAD!! i know not much about american politics since i’m in australia but i get basic things?? and the fact it’s like an enemies to lovers but not makes me sadder!!

                    Liked by 1 person

                    1. i know right??? and someone on twitter literally said that the plot is THE EXACT SAME. like wit. how is this even allowed???? IT’S RIDICULOUS. I’m SO glad for those people who reviewed it and we’ve all saved our time (and coin) and DIDN’T support this book!!

                      Liked by 1 person

  8. hey idk if you’ve been paying to recent discussions on twitter, but a lot of (q)poc have been talking about how the state of us has the potential to be super harmful to qpoc, since it’s a poc democrat/white republican situation. a goodreads review just went up highlighting the problems so i’d recommend you take a look at it (jenreadsromance) and reconsider it being on this list! ❤

but i’m super excited for a bunch of these, especially all the sapphic ones. girl, serpent, thorn looks like the morally grey sapphic book of my heart, and the kissing montage/i kissed alice both look like such cute romances!!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh shit I had no idea! That shit needs to GO ASAP!! Thank you for telling me 💕

The other ones do seem really cute!!! And Girl Serpent Thorn sounds like the BEST morally grey thing everrrr!!

  9. I’m so excited to be reading The State of Us next month! I had read SDH’s YA 2019 release and it was a disappointment, but this one looks promising. Also The Falling in Love Montage sounds amazing! I’ve been anticipating it for forever. And I Kissed Alice sounds so good, it’s so sad the release date got pushed to July. Also, for some other June/July queer releases, have you heard of I’ll Be the One by Lyla Lee (bi, fat & Korean rep), You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson (sapphic Black rep), or Cinderella is Dead by Kaylnn Bayron (sapphic Black rep)? Those are a few others I’m excited for.
